Microsoft Excel is not only a tool for basic data entry—it is also a powerful platform for complex analysis, automation, and data visualization. This advanced course is designed for users who already have foundational Excel skills and want to deepen their knowledge to work more efficiently and professionally with large data sets.
Overview
In this course, students will learn how to streamline workflows using advanced formulas, logical functions, and lookup tools. The instructor will also introduce tools for data organization and visualization, including conditional formatting, sorting and filtering, and pivot tables. Participants will gain insight into best practices for working with structured data, using named ranges, and troubleshooting formulas. The course concludes with an introduction to macros and basic automation using Excel.
Objectives and Content
• Logical functions: IF, AND, OR, nested formulas
• Lookup functions: VLOOKUP, HLOOKUP, XLOOKUP, INDEX & MATCH
• Named ranges and data validation
• Conditional formatting and custom formatting
• Sorting and filtering data sets
• Creating and customizing pivot tables
• Using tables and structured references
• Error checking and formula auditing tools
• Introduction to macros and basic automation with the macro recorder
Prerequisites
Participants should be familiar with the topics covered in the beginner course (Excel 1), including basic formulas, cell references, and the Excel interface. Access to a PC is provided in the computer lab on Campus 2, or participants may bring their own laptop.
